For years now, mummy has been making authentic tasting Singaporean food with the help of Prima Taste products, the only cure for home-cooked hawker food when I'm in Sydney, Australia.

That is why, when I stepped into 7-11 this morning and saw the all new Singapore Laksa La Mian by Prima Taste, I knew I just HAD to try!

Introducing Singapore Laksa La Mian!!

The contents of the packet.

(A) Laksa Paste - The base of yumminess!

(B) Laksa Premix - the whiff of coconut was oh-my-goodness strong! So nice!

After 1min in the boiling water and the noodles still held on to their waxed and frozen state!

Looks & smells yummy at the 7th min!

And its done!

After 40mins of eating/surfing the web/uploading photos/blogging, the La Mian noodles are still QQ and NOT at all soggy! The intense flavour of the gravy is amazing and the lemak is just right! This Singapore Laksa La Mian definitely beats all other Laksas I've ever tasted, be it instant, hawker-cooked and even hotels!

A little background about Prima Food

One thing amazes me each time Pasta Mania delivers food and that is how conscientious they are when packing the food!

The pasta is always separated from the sauce to prevent the pasta from getting overcooked and soggy, while the sauce is always cling-wrapped to prevent spillage.

The egg is always separated from the Caesar's Salad. Don't you just hate it when the yolk breaks up and just messes up the salad?!! OK, maybe it's just me... I HATE broken up egg yolk 'polluting' my food.

Well, I had Spaghetti with Beef Meatballs & Caesar Salad for dinner today.

The Beef Meatballs taste nice but exactly like some mass-production meatballs. The sauce seemed abit watery for my liking but the flavours compliment the meatballs well.

The Caesar Salad has always been yummy! I would prefer to have a bigger helping of veggies though. It's only veggies, rite? How expensive could it be?

All in all, thumbs up for Pasta Mania :D

This year's Hong Kong - Australia Business Association (HKABA) 10th Business of the Year Award's dinner was held at Shangri-La Hotel's Grand Ballroom.

CMC Markets were 1 of the 3 major sponsors this year and mummy was 1 of the judges!

This is HKABA's new logo.
If you look closely, U'll realise that the left part of the logo is 香 while the right says 港.
The colours green & gold signifies Australia as those are the national colours.
Quite innovative ya?

Appreciation awards were given to the sponsors as a sign of recognition.
There's mummy on the right! :)

Mummy handing out an award to the representative from PacNet.

And now.... this is wad U all have been waiting for!

Foodie pics!

Smoked salmon with watercrass & a really nice mustardy mayo sauce!
Yummy ok!

For the mains, there was a choice of chicken or tenderloin.
Prior experiences with dried out chicken has scarred me for life!
Thus, I chose the tenderloin :)

Dessert was Vanilla Creme Brulee with some raspberry compote thingy.
The Creme Brulee was exceptional!
Okok... mebbe I just have a super soft spot for Creme Brulee :P

Coffee and dancing ended a good evening!

Below is the video footage of mummy's speech :)

(Video footage was taken with my newest baby ~ N95 8GB! I LOVE MY BABY!)

Mummy & Chikky stayed over for the night and had a room on the 27th floor! So... we went up to look at the fabulouslyabsolutelybreathtakingview!

That's the Sydney Opera House lighted up in the dark... see the moon??? CHIO right?

My Panasonic camera FIT lor! muahahahahah!

Happy 43rd Birthday Singapore!

Day 2 in Melbourne and we went to Chinatown for yum cha at Shark Fin House.

Shark Fin House may look like any other run-down 4 storey building BUT the food was impeccable!

The har kow was super fresh, the sharks' fin dumplings were juicy, the siew mai was unusually yummy too!

Suckling PIG! LOL it was good! Nice and CRUNCHY skin! yumssssss!

This is like my FAV! Steamed Prawn Rice Rolls!
Fresh as anything! *slurps!*

Last but not least, we have DESSERTS!

Egg tarts that mummy swears by!

Honeydew Sago

Its not really honeydew that they use but rockmelons. Yea it's just semantics but this method of preparation was a nice surprise. It really gave the dish depth for the sweetness was also from the rockmelon itself and not sugar.

Mango Pudding

This is a pretty Australianised dessert. However, this was the best I've ever had. It tasted like a whole mango was pureed and then made into this one dish!

YUP! I was mango-fied!

How could we not have tao huey?!!

The tao huey in yum cha restaurants are unlike those in Singapore. These are really smooth and silky but Shark Fin House's was by far the most delicate I've ever had.

After all that eating, we decided to walk it off and of cos, look for the 'Singaporean' restaurant, TomTom...

We window shopped a few streets before coming across an eatery "Claypot King"! WOW! The pics do look good! So we decided that we would have dinner there that night :) Yup, this was just after yum cha! I Love Holidays!

We pretty much walked all around Chinatown by now when mummy finally proclaimed...

mummy: there it is! CHOM CHOM!
me: u said TOMTOM!
mummy: same lah! i remember got OM OM!
me: -_- same meh?

So yea... Chom Chom we went! OMG LAR! There got mee hoon kueh, got chwee kueh got alot of stuff la! OMG -__-"

We decided that we would ta-bao some for supper :) So walkies again we went!

Heavenly chwee kueh la!

It may seem like nothing much. U may think "siao char bor. chwee kueh nia ma!" Hey! We take for granted those things which are too convenient and too accessible ok?

It's hard to get homemade food here in Aussie much less authentic versions!

Mummy is love!

Thanks mummy for the trip, accomodations and food! Oh! My dress too! muacks!

Singaporean food was featured in last week's Food Safari on SBS and one of the dishes that caught Hunny's eyes were Hainanese Chicken Rice! *drools!*

Well, Hunny was so taken by the 'ease' of making the dish, he set out to accomplish his own challenge!

Doesnt it look yummy?!! :)

Taken without flash thus the 'nasi bryani' look!

How good does that look!

Hunny had fun cooking and it turned out amazing for a non-native on his 1st try! It's even much better than most of the chicken rice available in Sydney! YUP! I've got really high standards u know!

Today marks the LAST day of Hunny's job! GOOD RIDDANCE!!

We went out for dinner to celebrate and decided to go Thai Recipe. Geez, we havent been out on a date for a freaking long time lor!

My usual order would have been the Spicy Noodles but it's been a very long time since we've actually gone there for dinner. Most of the time, it would be home delivery.

Crispy Calamari

It was nicely seasoned but a tad overcooked IMO. Chewed and chewed and chewed... -_-""
It was delicious with the mayo but the sweet chilli sauce was too sweet!! ewwww!

Prawn Choo Chee

It's like damn nice lor! Imagine Laksa gravy but thicker and sweeter... lemak also!
There are snowpeas, baby corn, carrots and LOADS of mushrooms :D
Although it was only a small bowl, it was VERY filling!
THUMBS UP!

Prawn Laksa
Now, before you think "eee why go there and eat laksa de?", Thai laksa has a very distinctively different flavour to the normal laksa we are used to.
Thai laksa is sweeter and thicker as compared to the SG version.
Definitely yummier :D

After dinner we took a stroll and I saw this Hello Kitty in the shop! Inside got sweets de!

By the way, yes we were celebrating Hunny leaving his present job and yes, he's got a NEW job!

Feb 16th - Went for Chinese New Year dinner at Palace Garden Restaurant @ Picadilly. This dinner was organised by the Temasek Club.

Mummy booked the whole table of 10 but there were only 7 of us! MORE FOOD!!! *drools* $500 for the whole table i think... well worth the $$$!

Mum, Peter and Andrew joined us for the dinner.

12 courses X_X

Yu Shang - Traditional CNY dish of shredded veggies and originally mackeral but in Aus, they substitue it with salmon

Drunken Lion - Not sure wad it depicts but it was damn good lor!!!
The Lion came to collect ang baos from all the tables too.

& Wasabi Beef.

Yang Zhou Chow Fan - The fried rice was too bland for my liking even though there were a good amount of shrimps and ingredients.

Steamed Fish with Ginger and Shallots - The fish was scrumptous and fresh.

Roasted Meats - The roasted meats were well-seasoned. The char siew was heavenly while the skin on the roast pork was ULTRA crispy!! The duck and chicken were so-so nia.

XO Prawns - You could actually taste the 'XO'.... yummmm ~

The veggies were toooo big but overall ok ba...

Ee-fu Noodles - nice but a bit dry. Hunny's favourite afterall =]

Overall, the food was nicer than most restaurants and we did have a good time.

Feb 17th - We stayed over at Peter's the night before as it would be easier for us the next day.

Before the chicken salad, we actually had lots of canapes! lols!

Chocolate & strawberry delight!

Ate quite a bit but didnt drink much =] Hunny drank quite alot though -_-

Lastly, Happy Birthday Mum & Peter!

Yusheng or yee sang (鱼生) is a Chinese-style raw fish salad. It usually consists of strips of raw fish (most commonly salmon), mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients.

Yusheng literally means "raw fish" but since "fish (鱼)" is commonly conflated with its homophone "abundance (余)", Yúshēng (鱼生) is interpreted as a homophone for Yúshēng (余升) meaning an increase in abundance. Therefore, yusheng is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigour.

"Fishermen along the coast of Guangzhou traditionally celebrated Renri, the seventh day of the Chinese New Year, by feasting on their catches. This practice may have started in Chaozhou and Shantou as far back as the Southern Song Dynasty.

In Malaya's colonial past, migrants imported this tradition; porridge stalls sold a raw fish dish which is believed to have originated in Jiangmen, Guangdong province that consisted of fish, turnip and carrot strips, which was served with condiments of oil, vinegar and sugar that were mixed in by customers.

The modern yusheng dish originated in Malaya in what is modern Singapore during Chinese New Year in 1964 in Lai Wah Restaurant and was invented by master chefs Than Mui Kai (Tham Yu Kai, co-head chef of Lai Wah restaurant).

The taste of the original raw fish dish was standardized with a special sauce using plum sauce, rice vinegar, kumquat paste and sesame oil, and the fish was served with carrots, chilli, turnips, limes, jellyfish, red pickled ginger, sun-dried oranges and other ingredients, turning this simple dish into an exquisite salad with 27 ingredients.

The original dish used raw mackerel, although in deference to the popular wishes of customers, salmon was later offered as an alternative.

Since then, yusheng has become a staple Chinese New Year dish in Singapore as well as in Chinese communities in Indonesia and Malaysia and is typically available only during this festive season. It is also popular in Hong Kong."

"Today, this dish is served as an appetizer to raise 'good luck' for the new year and is usually eaten on Renri, the seventh day of the Chinese New Year.

In a celebration known as "lo hei"(Cantonese 撈起 or 捞起), families and friends to gather around the table and, on cue, proceeding to toss the shredded ingredients into the air with chopsticks while saying 吉祥话 (Jíxiáng Huà, auspicious wishes) out loud to mark the start of a prosperous new year.

Typical ingredients include: fresh salmon, daikon (white radish), carrot, red pepper (capsicum), ginger, daun limau nipis (leaves from lime tree), Chinese parsley, chopped peanuts, toasted sesame seeds, Chinese shrimp crackers (or fried dried shrimp), five spice powder. The dressing is made primarily from plum sauce."

Finally got to go to the temple at Smithfield, only to find out that it's a Vietnamese temple o.O??

Didnt matter much though =]

This is where we 'shake shake shake'!! So i qiu-ed a qian and got a monk to briefly translate...
"will have a better year than the previous ones... this is a bad year to get married... travel will be good... IF i were to travel, it would benefit me ALOT..."

So there u have it! I should travel! =] *finding sponsors for an air ticket to SG*

Buddha under a tree?

The tree is not real!! It was made to blend into the surroundings and there were 2 'guards' on each side.

1 of the 2 dragons 'guarding' the door of the prayer hall.

Kwan Yin

The Goddess of Mercy... my god-mum =]
She protected me and guided me safely through a very low patch in my life.

We debated between yum cha for lunch or Ratu Sari. Guess wad! Ratu Sari won! =]

"Ratu Sari is a slightly more up-market eating house in Kingsford's super cheap dining precinct, however it's still remarkably affordable. Care has been taken to make Ratu Sari an attractive, breezy space, popular with business lunchers and penny-pinching students alike."

Beautiful batik pictures decorate the walls...

We ordered entrees of soft shell crab, ngoh hiang and kueh pie ti.

The soft shell crab was... ok.

The kueh pie ti was tasty but somewhat different from the version we get in Singapore. It contained mostly meat as opposed to the turnip-filled version we are used to.
Overall, still yummy!

The nogh hiang was yummmyyyyy!!!!! It wasn't too oily but just right! It was served with a chilli sauce instead of the usual sweet sauce (kecap manis).

Chikky ordered Soto Ayam. It was pretty good too =]

Hunny took the safest alternative and ordered Kueh Tiaw Goreng. Simply put, it was char kway teow. -_-"

BUT it was GOOD!!!

Sambal KangKong

This dish was nicely done. The spice was just nice and the kangkong was not overcooked. Served in a hotplate, the taste was perfect!!

Spicy prawn & sotong dish

Paiseh ar... I totally forgot the name of the prawn and sotong dish *snickers*
The sauce was ultra spicy, just the way I like it =] but the sotong was too chewy.

ahhh~ dessert! Mummy and I shared a Durian Fantistique.
It was simply fantastic!
3 scoops of durian flavoured ice-cream over glutinuous rice
and topped with a coconut cream... heaven!

After all that food, Hunny decided we needed a new fridge and washing machine so we headed off to Retrovision, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys.

The current fridge and washing machine we have was bought 2nd-hand like 3 years ago? So I'd say they were both ard 6years old ba. Stupid fridge condenses and water collects at the btm of the crisper tray zzzzz.

This is the fridge we've chosen.
It's a Fisher & Paykel upside down fridge from the Virtuoso range.
We'll probably get it end of the month so that we can just pay for it in full =]

14.1" FASHION VAIO WHITE VGNCR22GB
Look at the keyboard... the way the buttons are spaced, it really makes for easy typing.
Specs and more pics can be found at Sony's webby.

Personally, I would rather have a desktop any day
BUT if I were to choose a laptop, this is the 1 for me =]
